The concept behind US Golf Scholarships is quite simple; it provides talented amateur sportsmen and women with an exclusive opportunity to pursue both an academic and Golf career simultaneously. A Golf Scholarship to an American university can cover some, and at times all, of the costs associated with earning a university degree. In return, the student-athlete will represent the university in Golf and maintain a good level of academic performance.
A Golf scholarship to the USA is a unique opportunity to pursue an academic and playing career within some of the best academic and sporting environments in the World. American collegiate Golf is seen by many as the best route for any aspiring professional players to go in order to develop their game and compete against the best amateur players found anywhere on the planet. The likes of Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Colin Montgomery, Luke Donald, Graeme Mac Dowell and many others, have all earned Golf scholarships at American Universities and progressed into the pro ranks.
The NCAA took over the "intercollegiate Golf tournament" from the US Golf Association in 1939. The tournament then became much more representative with colleges other than Ivy League schools competing and winning. The Championship competition takes place at two regional sites, East and West, with the top 18 teams advancing to the finals. These teams take part in a 72-hole tournament, with the combined score of the four best players determining the teams championship. NCAA women's Golf was one of the original nine sports that the NCAA introduced at the NCAA women's championships in 1981-1982. FirstPoint USA has secured thousands of scholarships to many of America's leading academic and athletic institutions; brokering tens of millions of dollars on their behalf in the process.
To be considered for a FirstPoint USA Golf Scholarship, you should be physically fit, have a high level of skill in Golf; you should possess a real drive and ambition to succeed. Academically, you must have completed high school and have grades to meet the initial-eligibilty requirements for the NCAA, NAIA or NJCAA. Good academic standing is an essential aspect of life as a student-athlete and this must be maintained throughout your collegiate sports career. Failure to do so could see you prohibited from training and playing, and potentially lead to your scholarship being withdrawn completely. The NCAA, NAIA and NJCAA each have strict rules regarding the good academic standing of all competing athletes.
